My ‘Why’
My mission has always been to change the way you think about gift wrapping, one parcel at a time.
I hear so often that people feel overwhelmed or lack confidence when it comes to gift wrapping (especially at Christmas) Cutting the right amount of paper or figuring out how to wrap an awkwardly shaped gift. And that’s before the sticky tape sticks to everything except what you need it to. Digging a bit deeper, I have been told that it is a faff or a waste – the paper is just going to get ripped off, so why bother? Isn’t it easier just to put it in a gift bag? Or just give the person the gift?
And yes it is easier to just put a gift into a bag – job done.
Why even bother to give gifts at all? The internet gives us 24/7 access to anything and everything we want. You can order in the morning and even have it delivered that afternoon in some cases.
It does make me a little sad.
There is so much more to gift giving
Spending time selecting the perfect gift you know is going to delight someone, choosing the gift wrap & ribbon, taking the time to carefully wrap the gift – all of this taps directly into OUR emotions.
Seeing the joy on a family member’s face when they peel back a beautifully wrapped gift to reveal the contents chosen JUST for them fills me with happiness too.
The bond you have with the person the gift is for, usually determines how much time and effort you put into the gift wrapping. And of course wrapping for a child, well, give a small child a box and they are usually happy.
Which brings me on to how much learning a few simple skills can make such a huge difference to how a gift looks
I have been running in person and latterly, online gift wrapping classes for many years. The budding gift wrappers have all been able to learn new skills & techniques that make a big difference to their gift wrapping ability & confidence
But a 60, 90 minute or even half day class is not a long time to practice new skills [Listen to the podcast or read the blog where I share my 5 Tips for getting the best out of an online gift wrapping class]
The Gift Wrapping Academy
And so the idea of the Gift Wrapping Academy was born.
One place, where academy members can access video tutorials, learn new skills & techniques at a time that suits. New videos added monthly, themed wrapping ideas around events throughout the year and more
Opening the Academy will free up my time to create & record more tutorials, research the best gift wrapping paper, ribbons and accessories. All of which will be available to read (and some to buy) within the membership
I will be sharing more details about what is included in the membership in the next few weeks
