A 60 or 90 minute online gift wrapping class is not very long to learn (and practice) new skills.
So you will want to make sure that you get the best out of the class
Here are 5 helpful tips for getting the best out of an online gift wrapping class
Tip 1: Be prepared
Set Zoom up ahead of the class. It is free software and really easy to use but it is worth familiarising yourself with how it all works and where stuff is. If you aren’t sure how to join a class, here’s a video (1 min 10s) showing you what to do, How to join a class
Get as close to your router as you can or plug directly into it if you can.
If you haven’t bought the gift wrapping kit to go with the class, make sure you have collected together everything you need. A PDF is included with your confirmation email. Or download a copy from the website
Tip 2: Allow plenty of space
You need space to gift wrap. Sitting at a table clear of clutter and with plenty of space to spread out will be a huge benefit. You will also find that you get a neater finish on your gifts when using a firm surface.
Tip 3: Avoid distractions
If you can, let other members of the family look after the kids. Lovely as they are, you only have a short time in the class and you don’t want to have to be dealing with your kids.
Turn off notifications that might pop up on your screen, they really can be a big distraction
Tip 4: Take part in the class
Learn how to use the chat option in Zoom so that if you have a question during the class you can add it to the chat. I will either answer it during the class or pick it up in the Q&A at the end
At the start of the class, all participants are muted. Learn how to unmute and mute yourself ahead of the class. This is especially important if you are taking part in a ‘breakout room’ where you may be practicing a skill with other class participants
NB If you have your camera on, be aware of what is around you.
Tip 5: Be realistic
90 minutes can go very quickly when you are taking part in an online class.
Don’t be too hard on yourself if you haven’t mastered the techniques at the first time of trying. The aim of the class is to let you see how to do it and then you can go away and practice in your own time. You will be given access to a recording of the class to allow you to revisit anything you are struggling with.
