Here I answer the 7 most common concerns that people have about joining an online class
Concern 1: Is an online class more expensive?
A group online class is actually cheaper than attending an in person class. Costs are kept down because there are no venue or travel costs to take into consideration. Even if you choose to buy the gift wrapping kit and have this delivered to your door, the class is still cheaper.
Concern 2: Will I learn the same things that I would at an in person class?
Depending on the duration of the class you choose, you will learn the same key skills that you would at an in person class. Classes vary in length, 30 minute one to one’s through to group 90 minute classes, with each class broken down into key activities. It is worth allowing a little extra time for any of the classes as occasionally they do overrun to allow you or other participants to complete a skill
Concern 3: Is an online class easier?
Because you learn the same key skills and techniques at both an online & in person class, neither is easier than the other. The biggest thing that makes online easier is that there is no need to travel
Concern 4: Will there be lots of people on the class that can see me?
I use the video conferencing software, Zoom to run the classes. If you’re not familiar with Zoom, I provide details on how to join a class with your conformation email. Zoom allows you to either have your computer’s camera on or off during the class. Obviously it is great to see everyone that is taking part in a class but if you don’t feel comfortable you can choose to have the camera off.
Concern 5: What if I get stuck on a technique or make mistakes, what do I do?
Because I use Zoom for the classes, there is the option to split attendees off into breakout rooms. A breakout room can be used for going over a technique, practicing in groups or one to one with me if you are really struggling.
Concern 6: What if there is a problem with my internet and I miss parts of the class?
Frustratingly the internet can let us down. All classes are recorded (tech permitting) and are made available to anyone on the class if needed.
Concern 7: I’m not sure it’s the right time for me
Rather than saying, I’m not sure it’s the right time for me, ask yourself when is the right time? Many people associate gift wrapping only with Christmas. And Christmas tends to be very busy with lots of things to plan and do. Finding the time to take part in a class may not be high on that to do list. Taking a class earlier in the year gives you the opportunity to try out the techniques (for birthdays, weddings, anniversaries etc) so when Christmas comes round you are already prepared.
